East Liberty

Recently Revitalized Urban Neighborhood
East Liberty is an edgy neighborhood in Pittsburgh that has recently undergone major reconstruction. The staple of the area, The East Liberty Presbyterian Church, remains but new developments continue to come as Google established offices here, historic buildings are constantly being renovated, and new restaurants are being established all the time. Renters here enjoy the diverse population and the fact that it's easy to get to other parts of the city.

The area used to be one of Pittsburgh's most prominent neighborhoods but became known as an urban renewal failure from the 1960's up until pretty recently. The new development has given this once thriving neighborhood a fresh start and people are noticing as mature students, young professionals, and families are starting to populate this area.

East Liberty

East Liberty — 8/10 Rating (based on 5 neighborhood reviews)
There are two grocery stores and a bus stop right across the street, which makes it very convenient to buy groceries and commute to/from school. While there aren't too many attractions in the immediate surroundings, there are many restaurants and shops on Walnut Street (10 minute walk away) and further down the street (10 minute walk in another direction). While the bus ride only takes about 30 minutes from the apartment to school, I usually wait outside about 45 minutes before class begins to ensure I don't miss the bus.

Cornerstone Village
On the border of East Liberty and Friendship. Amazing location. On the bus route (20 min commute to school), walking distance from multiple grocery stores and a local gym, and easy access to fun bars/ restaurants. Also a great place to walk/run. I love living here! Recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to live near school and wants a neighborhood of more than just Pitt students.
