Belle Sherman
Peaceful, Charming, and Scenic
Belle Sherman lies east of Collegetown and is known for its great public schools. Many young adults and families are constantly moving into this peaceful and quaint town. It is very laid back and relaxing. Cornell University and Ithaca College lie right by Belle Sherman, which attracts many students that want an easy commute to their classes. Many tennis players in town get to enjoy the Reis Tennis Center in town. At this indoor court, there are coaches, college matches, and recreational play all available.
The residents of Belle Sherman recommend eateries right outside of town whenever thirsty or hungry. There may not be many restaurants and bars within Belle Sherman itself, but the options close by in the towns nearby make the food scene an awesome attraction. Restaurants the locals recommend include Monks on the Commons, Viva Taqueria & Cantina, Asia Cuisine, Le Café Cent-Dix, and Taste of Thai. Bars for drinks on the weekend include Bar Argos, The Range, Chanticleer, and Lot 10 Bar and Lounge. Belle Sherman has proven to be a great place for young families, young adults, and college students that attend Cornell University or Ithaca College.

8.2/10 Rating
(based on 142 neighborhood reviews)
Collegetown is pretty centralized, at a walkable distance from all the other neighborhoods my classmates live and the places we go. If you cannot catch a ride somewhere or cannot drive, you can feel free to walk there. You cannot do the same if you are living in the Commons or in Maplewood. Catching an Uber is also very easy. The Uber drivers have passed through here enough to know where to find you.

Collegetown Terrace
I like this area. CTT itself is packed with students, many of whom are law students. So, socially, it's a pretty nice place.
Being in lower Collegetown, while a bit more distant from campus, may be a blessing in disguise because most of the extreme rowdiness on weekends happens up the hill. So, you still have decent proximity to campus and social scenes here, but without the chaos. This neighborhood is an easy walk to the Commons too. Keep reading

REally quiet, cute, family neighborhood. Close to an elementary school, very safe area. Close to a few running trails, which is great. About a mile from the nearest grocery store and about a five to ten minute walk to Cornell's campus.

Easy walk to Sage (flat 15 min walk) or Breazzano (flat enough 10 min walk.) Walkable to Collegetown etc but far enough away that you don't feel in the middle of the commotion. Quiet and chill, nice neighborhood for walking/running.

Nice location in that it's not far from campus or downtown. A lot is within walking distance though it's up/down the hills. Can make for a good walk or an easy uber for places that are a little bit farther.

There’s housing for families, but my building is mainly shared apartments for single students. The residents tend to be older than in Collegetown, and it’s quieter than either Collegetown or the Commons (since it’s all residential and has more trees and such around). My place is on bus routes and is walking distance from the Commons, Collegetown, and Cornell’s central campus, though some areas in the neighborhood are a bit less convenient to those locations.

While much of Collegetown is trash strewn and can be rowdy, Collegetown Terrace is a ways away from all of that, and because it is its own little enclave, CTT is peaceful and neat. CTT also provides a shuttle to Cornell in the mornings; extremely helpful. There is also a bridge over a beautiful gorge that connects CTT to South Hill, which is quiet and residential, but has a great running path/nature trail. CTT right between the Collegetown restaurants and bars and downtown.

The CTT campus is very large, with a wide range of price-points for apartments. I like to walk to campus, but there are options to take buses from CTT right to the Law School. What I like about this area is: reaching campus is walk-able, the rooms are decent, and the price is not exorbitant (for some rooms). I lived closer to campus last year: slightly closer walking distance and the rooms are cheaper, but the rooms usually aren't very nice. I considered living further from campus this year: you can get very nice rooms for decent prices, but reaching campus is no longer walk-able. I think the CTT area strikes a nice balance between cost, niceness of room, and walk-ability to campus.
The walk between CTT and campus passes through the frat house zone. Even if you pull a late night in the library, you should be fine walking through. Keep reading
Collegetown Terrace
The building is nice except there is nothing to get to eat or anything like that unless you walk either up the hill to college ave or down the hill to the commons. It is relatively close to either but it can be annoying in the winter when you would like to go grab something to eat very quickly and end up having up to walk up the hill in sub 0 temperatures just to get a snack.
