Expensive, but solid!

You certainly pay for it, but the facilities are very nice!

Berkshire Ninth St

Responsive management, maintenance request responded to within 1 day, apartment complex feels safe (although the parking garage door is sometimes left open for no reason), residents are pretty respectful of other residents, pet friendly, clean gym, close proximity to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods and East Campus is added bonus. Wish there were more individual self study rooms.

Berkshire Ninth

Large, clean apartments. Helpful staff. Lots of resident events with free food now. A big communal clubhouse area with places to study. Great location, across the street from Harris Teeter which has a Starbucks in it.

Berkshire Ninth Street Review

Very good amenities, the extra utilities costs are a little much with valet trash but the add ons for internet/cable are reasonable. The office is responsive and helpful and the building is gorgeous

Sort of luxury

B9 is great for people looking to spend a couple of hundred bucks extra for a more modern, quiet and better looking apartment

Best on 9th Street

Great for Fuqua students. Is it expensive? Yes, especially if you don’t have a roommate. But everywhere on 9th street is. I have gotten frustrated with random charges. One tip: see if you can negotiate your rent down a bit before signing, it worked for me. B9 has the best dog park and a nice lobby/clubhouse which is nice to use for small get-togethers. They do a lot of resident events with free food and drinks. Love that it’s close to Harris Teeter. Nice that S9 is right across the street, so you can go there for pool parties/house parties, but then come back to somewhere a little quieter. B9 is also a lot easier to navigate than S9, in my opinion. Berkshire Main is a bit too far away from the action and not as many MBA students live there. B9 is the best option for a Fuqua student. I’m in a studio which has very little closet space and storage space. You have to get a bit creative in a studio.

Love it here

Love b9! Amenities are amazing, and it’s less of a party scene than station nine. The building has a gym, a pool, and a bunch of common spaces. Really love it here.

B9 Corner Unit

I live in a two-bedroom, 2-bath apartment in B9 with a roommate on the 3rd floor. We both have walk-in closets, similar and good-sized bedrooms, and our own bathrooms. Our apartment is an open floor plan, and we have a patio that is spacious as well. The pool and gym are great amenities, and there is also a clubhouse and study rooms that are useful if I want to work or host outside of my apartment. It is conveniently located on 9th street next to Station 9.

We have had a number of issues with the apartment, that management is sometimes slow to respond to. For instance, we asked them to fix our dishwasher, and in trying to fix it, they reset the circuit breaker breaking the dishwasher further. After submitting a request to fix it, they haven't been able to come back so we've been out of a dishwasher for almost a week. The washer and dryer are basic models with only a few settings.

I do like the apartment overall, but it is definitely lacking in some areas for what the rent is.

Ninth Street Reviews

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
