Berkshire Ninth Street reviews and highlights
- on the pricier side
- new complex with great furnishings
- nice gym and clubhouse
- convenient location close to groceries, restaurants, and coffee shops
Great place to live overall
Pros: Really great staff, seriously they’re awesome. The apartments are definitely the nicest and largest between B9 and S9. Not as much partying activity as S9, events are typically pretty tame and over by 11pm. It’s all mostly quiet. B9 has the best apartment gym in town. The clubhouse is also amazing with conference rooms to work in for group projects, a kitchen area, a pool table, and shuffle board table. There are also community events pretty regularly if you have time to partake.
Cons: it’s not super cheap, which should be expected. The pool at S9 is better, but you can always just walk over there if you want.

Good location, nice amenities, pricey.

overall OK
--Very close to campus
--parking is annoying (uncovered on 4th floor and one of the 2 gates has been broken for over a month)
--older building, overpriced for what it is. Appliances are older. My washer has broken over five times and they refuse to replace it
--Building is a maze. Gym, parking lot entrances, etc. are not central or convenient for most apartments.
--No trash chutes on each floor, they make you pay $30 a month for valet trash and it's not consistent.
--loud. Man with leaf blower every weeknight near the building between 10pm--11:30pm

Great option
I live in a 1B studio that could easily be an apartment. In general B9 team helps fix fast any issue. Furthermore, the building is relatively new, has a great gym, lobby and pool

Berkshire Ninth Street Review
Good place to live if you compare it with other 9th Street apartments. But independently, it is pretty average and overpriced. There have been a couple of security-related cases as well recently, but I am guessing that's more because of the apartment being on the 9th street.

Expensive but good
I have really enjoyed living at Berkshire 9th and have lived there all 3 years. It is a great location and you can easily walk to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods and several restaurants and shops. The area feels safe and I like that it has a parking garage for my car.
I have a dog, and the complex has one of the best dogs parks in Durham. People at the dog park are friendly. The complex also has events every month that are fun.
While I don't really use them much, the gym is large and well-stocked, and it has a nice pool. There are also gas grills available for use in the courtyard that I do occasionally use to cook. Finally, the property has a clubhouse and outdoor area that are great if you want to host friends.
The biggest downside of living here is the expense. The only other complaint I have is that the fire alarm was having some issues last year and would randomly go off during the day.
As a final tip, do not get tricked into apartments 201, 301, or 401 because those units are by the trash shoot.

Mostly great!
I have really enjoyed B9, particularly as a dog owner. I live right by the dog park which has been a nice benefit for having a high energy pup. My experience has been very positive, outside of the way mail/packages are delivered, and a slight lack of transparency around total cost.

Nice to be close to other Fuquans
During my FY it was great living close to other FY students. Many club and social events happen around ninth street which makes this location great. The building has a decent gym and pool.

Good value for money
Despite being somewhat expensive, it’s worth it. It’s relatively new and in an excellent position. Furthermore it’s Pool and gym are in a really good condition. Finally, while there are some events in there, you can still get a good night sleep
