Living experience at The Mount Royal

Mount Royal with its new management team is doing a lot better compare to its prior management team. The building itself is always clean and leasing office is easy to work with. After some math calculations, it's the best to have 3 roommates. (myself included). That brings our individual rent down to less than $1,000 per person and be able to living in a building like mount royal and walking distance to school. The outdoor monthly parking lot is extra $140 and for indoor monthly parking is slightly more. My truck has gotten "fire extinguished" once by some teenager at night (no damage to the truck besides needing a deep clean car wash) but safety would be an issue for those who park outside. Mount Royal has a gym and hangout room for its residents access 24/7. Hangout room has a pool table and other games, its a decent space to host gatherings. Gym, on the other hand, it's just alright. Currently there's equipment that's out of order (for about 2 months now) and is yet to be fixed. Overall I would not pay more than $1300/person to live in Mount Royal. But I can't complain with how much I am paying now.

Fine apartment

The location is great for being close to the law school. Other than that the apartment is fine. There are maintenence issues but they are pretty quick. Not the best communication and the office staff are always changing. Walls are pretty thick so noise is minimal aside from hearing the train or ambulances/police sirens/firetrucks. The building has not been redone or updated in a long time.

Good Management, Good Apartment

The management company is nice and I've never had any problems with them. The location is good even without a car. I just need to get groceries delivered, but everything else I need is walking distance. Convenient for school because the walk is less than 5 minutes. The apartment itself is also nice, you can tell they take care of the units and the overall building

Great place to live but the downside is the price

Probably the best managed apartment I've ever rented but that is probably reflected in the price of renting. Definitely make sure to do a tour if possible because some of the floor plans can be oddly shaped (particularly the one-bedrooms). There are also three/four 'styles' of apartments which also vary in pricing on top of the number of bedrooms you're looking for. If you're very sensitive to noise, living so close to Penn Station may not be the best idea (you can sometimes hear trains honking their horns as they pull into the station).

Mount Royal - Perfect Location

The complex has been through three property managers since we've been here (2 years), so the management involvement has gone up and down. Right now, great place, responsive management, quick turn-around timing for maintenance requests.
The apartments themselves are nice; nothing terribly fancy. But the room sizes are sufficient, and there's a good amount of storage/closet space.
We've had no problems housing our cats.
Parking is very expensive, and there are limited numbers of spaces, so just be aware. Street parking is possible; there are usually extra spaces on one of the two nearly bridges.
Overwhelming upside is that its 5 minutes walk to the law building.

Good apartments

Great location. Pool table, lounge area, and conference room were very nice. Free coffee in the conference room (when it works). They will try to get you to pay for uneccessary repairs that they make at the end of the lease term. On-property parking is convenient but expensive. Our kitchen is small.

Review of Mt Royal Apartments

My roommate and I pay 1600 dollars a month ($800/person) for a two bedroom two bathroom apartment. The apartment itself is pretty spacious. Good size living room, bedrooms, bathrooms. My bedroom is significantly smaller than my roommates bedroom, but my bathroom is en suite and her's is not (tradeoffs). We don't pay too much in utilities. I'd say 80-90 dollars a month for water+electric+cable. The building is well insulated and we have yet to turn on the heat (even in freezing temps w/ snow on the ground the apt has never dropped below 65 degrees).

Other pluses:
- building is very secure
- maintenance staff is prompt (tho sometimes they only provide half ass fixes)
- laundry in the apartment is great

The bad:
- YOU HAVE TO PAY A FEE FOR PAYING YOUR RENT ONLINE (I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!! ITS 2016 THIS IS SO DUMB).
- the kitchen is very small, with almost NO counter space
- kitchen appliances are dated
- there are no drawers in the kitchen
- limited storage space in the kitchen

Great apartment

I have lived in the same apartment for three years. Management is very responsive and helpful.

The apartment complex is in a very nice area at an affordable rate if you are willing to share an apartment with roommates. Since it is next to University of Baltimore, it is a safe neighborhood.

Mount Vernon has restaurants, bars, shops, and multiple grassy areas near the monument. It's a great place to walk around. It's a very communal space. Nearby schools are UB, UMD, MICA, and JHU Peabody. Bus transit near the monument. The Walters Art Museum is very close by. UB is about a 15 minute walk and 5 minute drive from 611 Park.
Area is nearby Mount Vernon, which is very charming. Good restaurants, nice walking area. If you are into night life, however, this apartment may not be for you. The area nearby the building is very quiet at night.
Great place to visit museums, restaurants, and historical monuments. Not too far from the law school, and the UMB Shuttle can get you to school in about 10 minutes
There isn’t too much near by in comparison to other locations in Baltimore, but it is in the middle of the city so it is easy to get places. There isn’t a grocery store nearby, which is probably the biggest con.
UMd Police presence is fairly high, so the area feels reasonably safe. Fairly well lit, and fairly heavily traveled given its location with UB and UMd.
Have only been offered crack once in two years.
This area of Baltimore is not necessarily super busy. The nightlife and restaurant scene is abysmal in this spot, but there are several, easy ways to get into Federal Hill or Fell's Point.

Additionally, this area is not known to be a super safe area of Baltimore, but since we are located so close to the school, there is constant security around. I have never felt unsafe walking to and from school and my apartment.
On the very south edge of Mt Vernon. Pretty quiet, some good restaurants/a few bars around. Easy to casually go out, or travel a bit for more aggressive nightlife. Less safe area about 1 block south, but very safe north.
Good bar/restaurant scene, right next to the train/bus station. Some crime but can't help that.
