Good quality, quiet, strict rules

Sherman plaza is probably the best building in Evanston; it is also expensive. The rooms are very nice, the location is right downtown and across from both the L and Metra stations, and the walk is manageable ~25 minutes or so to the glub. The management is very responsive and effective (unlike say E2), the internet works well, and the building actually maintains thermal control during the fall and spring when most of the others are sweltering. There are a lot of rules and the building is anti-party, so don't pick it if you plan on hosting a lot of friends. And most units are owned so it can be tough to find a spot. But overall its a great place to live if you want quiet and quality for a price.

Great building in a convenient location

Apartments at Sherman Plaza are slightly pricey, but it's a great place to live in. The staff are just fantastic, it's in a convenient location (right next to the CTA & Metra stations), and if you plan to be a regular gym-goer you can get an LA Fitness membership and not even have to step outdoors to get there. The building is also wired for hi-speed Internet (which'll cost you an extra ~40-65 a month depending on whether you want 100 or 300 Mbps speeds).

Sherman Plaza

I live in a one bedroom plus den and one bathroom. For a couple, it's the perfect amount of space. The closets could be a tad bigger, but overall there is sufficient storage. The kitchen appliances are outdated, but I think that will vary unit to unit. I really like the floor to ceiling windows and natural lighting. I control the temperature myself in unit which is nice. Also washer/drying in unit. Parking and a storage locker is included in my rent. The location is super central to downtown Evanston. Not as social as a building for students as others.

Great amenities, quiet downtown location

Sherman Plaza has been wonderful. It's a condo building, so units are generally nicer and larger than most apartment buildings. I lucked out with one of the few 1br/1ba (no den) units (~900sqft, parking and storage included). I'm on the 3rd floor, which has direct access to the resident lounge, parking garage, and LA fitness (super clutch in the winter). Floors 3-6 also have awesome lofted ceilings (11 or 12 feet high). The location is great; right next to the Metra and the L, and in the middle of all the downtown Evanston bars and restaurants, but maybe a little far from the new Global Hub. The building is quiet, which is nice, but lacks some of the community/camaraderie found at E2.

Great place to live in

Amazing building, spacious rooms, quiet and super well located. Not a party building, but close enough to everywhere in Evasnton.

Great spot

Location is great though distance to school will increase for the new building. One block from the trains, close to all the hangout spots. Quiet building with indoor access to LA Fitness (you still need a membership). We are in a one bedroom with a den which has been great for late night studying and not disturbing my husband while he is sleeping. Safe and responsive building management. Included parking spot and storange cage. Since they are condos you have to deal with the owner or a real estate company and ours has been great. Beautiful views of the city, good living space, and lots of sun on the south side of the building.

Sherman Plaza

Quiet building with few Kellogg students. A little on the expensive side but apartments are nice enough to warrant the extra cash. No party seen here but very centrally located so it's easy to hit all of the bar then have a quiet place to return to.

Located across the street from the El and has LA Fitness attached. Although, I was underwhelmed with LA and joined Evanston Athletic Club (2 blocks away).

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
