Convenient but there are better places in Hyde Park

Regents Park is convenient for LLMs because many of us live there. The gym is ok, the laundry is ok too. However, a few of us have had problems with the concierge misplacing deliveries, so every now and then there are stories of people not receiving their packages.

Lots of law school friends, but a bit overpriced

There are pros and cons to living in Regent Park. The perks are a spacious room, a great view, and completed amenities. The maintenance here is a bit slow. It's OK if you are patient. I also found small roaches in the kitchen (which a pest control came to help with) and got a smell from a neighbor when they cooked (they opened their door = =''). Overall, it's overpriced, but being able to be surrounded by your law school friends is a plus! My concern before signing the contract was the carpeting floor, but it turned out to be better and I didn't have any allergy issues living here.

Effective

Regents is a good place to live while you do the LLM, comparatively speaking. The place is old and it kinda smells, but it's close to the bus, 53rd, and other students, which makes it safer than being somewhere on your own. They do try to attend to maintenance, though it can be slow. It's spacious, warm and dry. The gym is a bit bare and run down, but you can get a workout in. The laundry works fine, though not for white clothes.

Good for singles

Regents apartment is a convenient solution for international students. I would not recommend it to couples and even less to families.

Generally Good

Generally, the apartment is good. Though, one can see that it hasn’t been renovated for a long time.

High crime and far from school

I think the facilities are OK. However, there have been at least three instances of shooting (I've only lived there for three months), and it is far from the law school (30-minute walk or 15-20 minute bus ride, several stops, and traffic impact ETAs)

Overpriced but convenient

Lots of students live here - management and neighbors are nice. Laundry, utilities, parking, location all super convenient. You can definitely find cheaper and better quality housing in Hyde Park, but for busy grad students the convenience is worth it for us.

Okay for a short term

I decided to live in this apartment because many classmates from my program traditionally live here. Because many people live in this apartment, the elevators are slow and packages get lost sometimes. I see some criminal reports inside and outside of this building. The location is very convenient for grocery shopping and transportation to school and downtown, but I will not choose here if you will be here for a long term.

Passable

The space is good, the amenities in the apartment are nice, and rent is about as low as you can get in Hyde Park for a high-rise building. However, management is not willing to resolve issues and the location is just fine.

I love living near the university. I think it is very convenient for attending UChicago events. Most of our class lives here, so it makes it very easy for reunions and parties. I take the bus to the loop on the weekends. Living here does not mean you can't experience the loop fun. But people that live in the Loop usually don't come to our class parties because it is far away.
Hyde Park is a great neighborhood, especially for 1L year. There is plenty to do with new bars and restaurants -- and grocery stores, like Trader Joes -- coming in every year. While it's not as "happening" as the Loop or River North, for example, it's nice to be near the Law School as a 1L and most of your classmates will be in Hyde Park as well. I've lived in Hyde Park for 6 years now and can attest that it is very walkable and very safe, and it has a nice neighborhood feel that you don't get as much in the Loop or Loop-adjacent neighborhoods.
Pretty close to campus, about a 10 minute drive/bike ride. Seems safe, at least east of MLK Blvd. Pretty quiet overall, Maple Court is right next to an elementary school so there is some noise in the morning and when the kids are at recess. Hyde Park Produce is walkable, but not super close. Whole Foods is opening up at Lake Park around 51st/Hyde Park Blvd. soon. Large shopping area at 47th and Lake Park with Walgreens and Subway. Mostly fast food on 47th St. No bars, coffee shops, or anywhere nearby to hang out.
Hyde Park is extremely boring. I live here because the school is here and the commute is easy. There are very few good restaurants and no nightlife whatsoever. Luckily, getting downtown is cheap and easy. I've never felt unsafe during the daytime, but I certainly don't go walking around at night.
The neighborhood feels safe overall, as I live right on the border with Hyde Park. There is a dearth of businesses (stores, restaurants, bars) in the area, but that is true for all of Hyde Park. Proximity to the Law School is the best part of where I live.
My building is a 5 min walk to Whole Foods and 12 min walk to Target. Hyde Park is getting more restaurants and bars, but I wish there were better options. It is nice to be close to my friends and close to campus though.
It's a cute neighborhood, lots of young professionals, beautiful architecture, close proximity to school and super close to the city. Downside is few good food options and can get boring. But I love the free bus!
I've been a Chicago resident for most of my life, and I can safely say this is one of my favorite places to live. It's affordable and enjoyable.
