Incompetent Staff and Not the Best Building

Regents Park is sold to you as a first year as a place where all the 1Ls live and study--that is not true. While many 1Ls live here, study groups typically meet at the law school or other spaces. While my studio is beautiful and very spacious, the ventilation in the building is terrible. A year ago, someone was smoking cigarettes into the bathroom vent every day for months and the building said they couldn't do anything about it b/c it allows smoking. Many other students had issue with people smoking cigarettes or weed all throughout the building since the vents are connected. Also, the walls are EXTREMELY thin so you can hear the conversation of the person next door. Also, they are renovating the elevators, one at a time. It has been extremely frustrating because it takes 10 minutes for an elevator to come any time I leave my apartment and its normally filled up. They also only run two elevators during the weekend. Instead of reducing our rent, they offer these random coffee or pizza days once every blue moon. My tv feed is also pretty crappy throughout the night. The gym is decent, but they dont keep it cleaned and there is dust on the machines. To conclude, I would live elsewhere, but if you do, just stay for a year.

Good for price

Pros:
- Great views
- Great layout
- Gym is pretty good
- Staff is nice
- Great living where a lot of students live
- AC / Heat works well

Cons:
- Horrible elevator system (like, genuinely horrible)
- Staff lie about promised improvements for unknown reasons
- Walls pretty thin (often hear people in adjacent rooms)
- Pay extra for Wi-Fi, and at an increasing rate for quicker speeds (we pay $25 per month for 25mbps)
- Revolving door at front makes no sense
- Amenities fee of $140 per month (total)

A night in Hyde Park

Elevators are often broken down, internet is required through a DSL company that is slow and spotty (you can't get Comcast or AT&T for example), the heat/AC swap-over is controlled by the management company and you can't open windows, so some days will be hot or cold around the edges of seasons.

Shameful

I booked at Regents after reading the law school emails strongly pushing law students there for social and convenience reasons. The building is overrun by section 8 housing applicants, and nearby apartments are often screaming at each other until the wee hours of the morning. Elevators are always broken or otherwise dysfunctional, the apartments are the equivalent of what a dorm room would be for three times the price, and I could not be less satisfied with the law school’s recommendation to live there.

Regents Park review

Elevators are extremely slow and I live on the 31st floor. It can sometimes take up to 10-15 min to get up or down. Also there are almost no ceiling lights in the unit.

Elevator Issues

The building is in a convenient location, but is way too expensive for the quality of the building. Everything seems to be a bit run down and usually only half of the elevators work. Wait times are long during busy hours. If you are going to live here, choose to live on a lower floor so you can take the stairs.

Regents Park--Great Location, Evil Landlords

Regents is a great location for law students. It's pretty close to stores and restaurants and is on multiple free bus routes to campus. The apartments are huge, the views can be great if you're high up, and there's a decent gym and pool. The problem is that Mac is downright abysmal, and it seems like they want to make living there as difficult as possible. Resident Services doesn't give a damn about its tenants, communication is nonexistent, the staff is unfriendly, parking is a fortune, and the elevators are slow and terrifying; they love skipping or stopping between floors. (Mac said they would be replaced this year, but we are six months in, and we've gone from four bad elevators to three bad elevators). The one good thing is that the maintenance staff is exceptionally quick and courteous. Overall, it's still worth living here because of location, size, and the abundance of law students, but I'd be long gone if there were anything better around.

Building great administration horrible

The building, amenities, unit etc are all amazing. In building gym and pool, laundry and package pickup, big space, relatively good rent, great lake view, good area, easy bus transportation to school. The administration is horrific. Moving in was a logistical nightmare. Elevators are slow. In apartment repairs are super fast, building level repairs are horribly slow

Solid place to live!

Amenities and staff are wonderful. Really accessible by CTA, metra, and UChicago bus system. 24 hour maintenance is a godsend, and everyone is always willing to go the extra mile to help you. Small gym, but LA Fitness is very close, so it's not a problem at all. Close to great food and grocery stores as well. Overall 8.5/10!

Decent

Decent but not great. Building is a bit old, not super secure
Management is pretty responsive but sometimes are very disorganized especially when it comes to moving in and out. The elevator isn't very good either and very slow. Overall, an okay place to live but should be cheaper given the facilities.

I love living near the university. I think it is very convenient for attending UChicago events. Most of our class lives here, so it makes it very easy for reunions and parties. I take the bus to the loop on the weekends. Living here does not mean you can't experience the loop fun. But people that live in the Loop usually don't come to our class parties because it is far away.
Hyde Park is a great neighborhood, especially for 1L year. There is plenty to do with new bars and restaurants -- and grocery stores, like Trader Joes -- coming in every year. While it's not as "happening" as the Loop or River North, for example, it's nice to be near the Law School as a 1L and most of your classmates will be in Hyde Park as well. I've lived in Hyde Park for 6 years now and can attest that it is very walkable and very safe, and it has a nice neighborhood feel that you don't get as much in the Loop or Loop-adjacent neighborhoods.
Pretty close to campus, about a 10 minute drive/bike ride. Seems safe, at least east of MLK Blvd. Pretty quiet overall, Maple Court is right next to an elementary school so there is some noise in the morning and when the kids are at recess. Hyde Park Produce is walkable, but not super close. Whole Foods is opening up at Lake Park around 51st/Hyde Park Blvd. soon. Large shopping area at 47th and Lake Park with Walgreens and Subway. Mostly fast food on 47th St. No bars, coffee shops, or anywhere nearby to hang out.
Hyde Park is extremely boring. I live here because the school is here and the commute is easy. There are very few good restaurants and no nightlife whatsoever. Luckily, getting downtown is cheap and easy. I've never felt unsafe during the daytime, but I certainly don't go walking around at night.
The neighborhood feels safe overall, as I live right on the border with Hyde Park. There is a dearth of businesses (stores, restaurants, bars) in the area, but that is true for all of Hyde Park. Proximity to the Law School is the best part of where I live.
My building is a 5 min walk to Whole Foods and 12 min walk to Target. Hyde Park is getting more restaurants and bars, but I wish there were better options. It is nice to be close to my friends and close to campus though.
It's a cute neighborhood, lots of young professionals, beautiful architecture, close proximity to school and super close to the city. Downside is few good food options and can get boring. But I love the free bus!
I've been a Chicago resident for most of my life, and I can safely say this is one of my favorite places to live. It's affordable and enjoyable.
