Small Hub
It's tucked away from Dixwell ave and is made up of six buildings. It has direct trail access that make it great to get into nature in the middle of Hamden. The community grills are my most frequently used amenity and I've also used the gym a few times whenever I don't want to drive. Outside of the apartment complex there isn't much of a walkable area, so if you like being able to walk to shops, you might want to go elsewhere.

Safe and Accessible
CCX are a set of newer apartments in the Hamden right near the entry to Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) so it's a 15 minute drive to campus. There's a clubhouse with an office, kitchen/lounge, and gym as well as pool. Maintenance is top notch and cleaning services keep the hallways and lobbies looking great. The 2 cons are that you have to drive 10-15 mins to go out to dinner either in New Haven or Wallingford and sometimes delivery services deliver packages to the wrong buildings (this only happened once for me, but I've received a few emails from management that they are working on this issue with the respective services). Other than that, we love living here and would continue doing so if we did not have to move for residency.

CCX is the place to be
CCX is popular because it actually meets your expectations from their website. The apartment is modern, clean, and spacious (it looks like the photos). Management and maintenance are great and timely. There is a clubhouse with space for renting, a study space/business office, pool, and a small gym with everything you need. The only downside is the noise above you during the day depending on your neighbors. Overall, it's quiet. Even with the daily noises of our neighbors, we are desensitized now. The location is also perfect because you are close to the Merritt Parkway as well as many stores 5 mins away (see a map). Lastly, there is a trail that you can bike, run, or walk that tracks next to the property. With basic safety measures in place, I never felt unsafe or experienced a negative interaction.

Great place to live
Canal crossing is a great place to live. It’s everyone has been very friendly. There a lot of great amenities like the grills, clubhouse and pool that are perfect for get together with friends. The gym is small but has free weights and a few cardio machines.

Good overall
Good place overall, but area outside of the complex isn’t the greatest. Very safe in the complex.

Clean, safe, attractive apartments
Canal Crossing is a great place to live, with or without the discount program. Lots of pets and young people. Only con is that the walls are somewhat thin, so you can hear those above you. This is something I've gotten used to, though, and you tune it out after a while.
Re discount program: Call the front office for the discount program, and try to get on the waitlist 3-6 months before you plan to move in for the best chance at success.

10/10!!
I've been living at canal for 2 years now and I don't plan to leave. I have a 12 minute commute from campus. My apartment is spacious, I have a big closet. There is also an "in apartment" washer and dryer. It is not furnished so you do need to purchase your own furniture. Everyone is very friendly here, there are people from all ages. All the staff are amazing and they really want to make sure you have a good experience here. Parking is included, and there is enough space for guest. There is a gate they does down at night, where you have to buzz in with your key fob.
There is a trail near by that I see many people walk or ride bikes, the pool is amazing and can be very relaxing during the summer. You can pay extra for covered parking, a garage, or additional storage in the basement.
If you are a student ask to see if there are any subsized housing available that's why my rent is 1300 and not 2000+.
Cons: Sometimes I hear my upstairs neighbor, he's an older guy with a dog, I think he is retired so sometimes it sounds like he is doing projects up there, who knows, but if I am bothered too much I just call the office and they are able to remind him to keep it down.
Overall, a very trustworthy complex, everyone is friendly, the complex hosts free social gatherings with wine and cheese, or movie night etc.
They also have frequent visits with various food trucks which is nice if you don't feel like cooking or going anywhere. (you do have to buy the food)
besides that Ive loved my time here and I hope this helped!

I will be living here all 4 years :)
During my first visit to Connecticut I went to 8 apartment complexes in one day. Being accepted so much later in the application cycle I was scrambling to find a place. So...
I found Canal crossing.
The management.... is amazing !! Very friendly and very timely on concerns, they are always there when I need them or have a question.
The apartment.... So modern, check out their website and even ask for a tour , they have a pool, gym, dog park, regular park for children, a walking path if you enjoy walking or riding a bike. They have additional storage space in the basement area. You can pay additional money for garage space or under the covered parking area. Great closet space, in-apartment washer and dryer, dishwasher etc.
The utilities... I pay them all separately, the water, gas, electricity, and my wifi .. Since I am a student I got a good discount.
From a transitioning undergraduate, I was slightly away at first because I had to furnish the place and the rent was sky-high, (then I found out about the student discount :)
Other than those points, it's a gated community, very safe, the neighbors are great, very friendly, pet-friendly, there are some restaurants and shopping centers down the street too.
There are other medical students from Yale, Quinnipiac, doctors, lawyers, nurses, families that all live here.
