Grand Ohio is a solid place to live at

I live on the 6th floor of the Grand Ohio. The building is next door to a Whole Foods and about 10 min walk from Jewel-Osco, Trader Joes, and other grocery stores. I am a 5 min walk from the medical campus. The building is about a 7 min walk from the nearest Red Line stop. The building feels very safe and the doormen are awesome. The management office has okay hours and they have helped me with any problem that I've brought to them. I have had very few laundry issues and have almost always been able to find laundry machines to use, even at the busiest times of the week. There is a gym in the building that is about as good as you can ask for with a free apartment gym, including a weight room with dumbbells and benches, weighted bars (10, 20, 30 etc to 100+ lb), machines, cable machines, smith machine, and a fairly good sized cardio room with about 2 step machines, 7 treadmills, 2 bikes, and 3 ellipticals. The only thing the weight room is missing is squat racks and a bench press spot (free barbell that you can add weight to), which I go to another gym for. There are tennis courts, a half basketball court to shoot around in for fun, a pool, and more.

Best place in Streeterville!

The Grand Ohio has some of the cheapest rent in Streeterville and is a 5 minute walk to campus. It’s also basically right on Michigan Ave, and there are 3 grocery stores across the street from us. I love that we have a gym included in our rent and a decent amount of utilities as well. The doormen / packages are 24/7 as well! The apartments are also very spacious as well, it’s a great value for the price. One con would be our rooftop isn’t as fancy or nice as some of the other apartments but there are some lawn chairs and grills up there that people use in the summer time.

Well above average

Each unit is different depending on the owner so you have to search for one you like, but most are pretty nice for the price, which is on the lower end for Streeterville. Excellent location for the school and closer to River North (where most bars/restaurants are) than most of the other Streeterville apartments. The gym could be better, but it's good enough that you don't need to purchase a membership elsewhere unless you want very advanced equipment. Units have large windows, with higher-up units having better views. Maintenance and doormen are highly responsive and prompt. I never hear any neighbors through walls. Indoor parking is available for about 200/month. There is an indoor pool on the roof. The outdoor roof lacks the nice patio and amenities that many other buildings have but it does have a few grills/picnic tables, basketball court, and tennis court.

Great building

Building is very nice, elevators are fast, management is responsive, doormen are very nice, packages are managed well, amenities are nice (pool, tennis court, gym, half basketball court, grills, racquetball court) and easy to reserve. Location is very close to campus (less than 10 min walk), there are several restaurants nearby and Whole Foods is across the street. Jewel and Traders Joe's aren't far either. Lots of other med students in the building. The bus stop is across the street and the red line is a 5 min walk away

Great apartment

For location, a lot of units are on the cheaper end of Streeterville. Comes with basically all amenities (albeit most of it is older), including pool, gym (has basically everything but a barbell - but has Smith machine), steam room, basketball + racquetball court, tennis court, plenty of cardio equipment, couple of grills.

Great value overall, with plenty of med students in the building.

The Grand Ohio Review

Very nice location. It's a condo so specific apartments will vary based on the particular owner. Amenities are convenient, usually no in-unit laundry, but has gym/pool/out door tennis court.

Perfect location for Feinberg, almost feels like a small slice of a college town because so many of your neighbors will be students, residents, nurses, etc at the hospital. You do get sirens fairly often depending on where you live since the emergency room is very close. The neighborhood doesn't have too many restaurants/bars but it is walking distance to River North and Gold Coast and the rest of the city is easily accessed by public transport. Much safer than most neighborhoods in Chicago.
Streeterville is a very nice neighborhood. There are plenty of parks and grocery stores. There is some late night crime due to the location downtown and close to the beach, but overall nothing worse than anywhere else.

There are some more expensive restaurants and fast food places. Navy Pier attracts a lot of tourists and they can be annoying to navigate around.
I enjoy living in Streeterville since it's near many of Chicago attractions without feeling overwhelming like in the Loop. I am able to walk around safely at night and I like going jogging in Millennium Park. My biggest complaint would be the lack of greenery in the area and how the city can feel a little bit insulating at times. Public transportation is great. This area is pricey, which is why I decided to have a roommate.
The Streeterville area was still pretty sleepy when I moved here three years ago. Since then, there has been an incredible amount of development. New luxury apartments and condos are going up, several new restaurants, a brand new target and Whole Foods. Its become a great place for professionals who enjoy living downtown, but without the club crowds in River North.
There are a few buses that are near by that help get residents down to the loop. Also it's pretty easy to walk around and the cross walks are pedestrian friendly. I'm always able to get around by foot and buses/trains. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood and I've never felt unsafe walking around at night. The streets are well lit.
Noise is not usually too big of an issue in this neighborhood; it's pretty quiet at night.
There are multiple grocery stores nearby for multiple choices. Also there are a bunch of great places to eat so one will not get bored with options.
While on the expensive end in Chicago, streeterville is safe, has all the necessities (look for apts near grocery stores if you don't have a car!!), is super close to school (and most feinberg students so convenient for socializing), and is super close proximity to restaurants and bars.
This building is located in the center of everything you could possibly need. Whole foods and Jewel within walking distance, easy to get to the lake front, and plenty of good restaurants and bars. The only down side is that it does not really have a "neighborhoody" feel.
Love how close we are to the medical school, makes going to class really easy. A lot of students live in Streeterville so it is very easy to hangout with friends. There are also a few coffee shops in the neighborhood that are very fun to study at!
