Using apartments.com I found what I thought was a steal. It looked like a quiet little apartment complex within a thick suburban neighborhood literally a 10minute walk (through small residential neighborhood) to campus.
There are only 2 units in the entire complex that have been renovated (im living in one of them). Otherwise, i would rate it a 3/10. It gets a 5/10 because it is cheaper than market value and has more square footage than most other apartments in nearby area, plus modern appliances. (like brand new never used) in ONLY two units.
However, that is where the pros end. The other units are disgusting, and many tenants are drug users/pot smokers. Management doesnt care. Most people within the last 2 years have been vacated because the new management doubled the rent for all other tenants (of 70's style units). The other non-connected units are infested with rodents and bugs. Luckily our complex was spared.
There's a homeless guy who was squatting in a unit and apparently defecated in the laundry room. Luckily, I do not need the laundry room with my dedicated washer/dryer. Police are called frequently.
Also, pretty sure my unit was renovated by not certified electricians and carpenters because I had some insane issues the first year which almost caused an electrical fire. The management previously went bankrupt and was "bought out" by what I assume to be another family business that will conduct (terrible) management as usual.
If you're a woman I would not live here due to the potential danger. Isolated complex seems sketchy at times. As a man I am more comfortable with the danger potential because I can defend myself, otherwise I would move.
Also the unit gets terrible sunlight due to the roof. This makes it cooler in the summer but absolutely freezing in the winter.
