Overpriced but cozy living

Although apartment hunting in Denver was a nightmare, my roommate and I got very lucky to secure a 2bed/2bath at Legend Oaks. We were very late to the game when we flew in to find a place to live in July, so there were minimal semi-affordable rental housing left in Denver for the fall semester. There was ONE unit left at Legend Oaks that we had to beat other buyers to submit the application. We can barely afford it, but I guess that's to be expected of student living in Denver. I love the 1000+ sq. footage, the in-unit washer/dryer, and the amenities on the complex. I've learned to appreciate the 20 minute drive to DU because off-campus living helps divide my school and home life. I brought my car from out-of-state, so I was very relieved to find out parking is only $8/month. I feel very safe and comfortable in my apartment, which is the #1 priority. When my family and friends have come to visit and stay with me, they've said my place makes it feel like they're on vacation. Very few students live at Legend Oaks from what I've seen, but the quiet family atmosphere of the complex is very calming.

Getting around East Denver

East Denver Reviews

Legends Oaks is located on the border of Denver and Aurora, and the 2+ mile radius surrounding the complex is dedicated to apartment/condominium living. Families primarily live in the area, which makes the neighborhoods feel safe and friendly. Nearby traffic getting to inner-city Denver can be a terror, but you get used to it. Everything you'd ever need is less than a 5 min. drive away on Mississippi Ave. & Havana St., including restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, car shops, shopping centers, banks, etc. I can even walk to Target in ~8 minutes. I've adjusted well to this area of Denver/Aurora.
The best king soopers is nearby, trader joes and natural grocers nearby. Close to Wash Park and Cherry Creek mall.
Feels pretty safe. Close to Costco, target, and some other useful stores
By Costco and target And lots of family housing
It is pretty quiet and quite diverse which I like and there are plenty of things to do in the area. The neighbors I have interacted with are friendly. There have been two or three incidents of the package room being broken into in mid-December but I believed they updated the lock because it hasn't happened since. It could come off as a little boring compared to neighborhood closer to the city/mountains, but it works well for me!
The complex is close to lots of grocery stores, target, fast food places, restaurants, and the highway, making it easy to get places. At night, some areas can be sketchy.
The Lowry neighborhood is excellent for waking pets, getting into parks, and getting food.
Would not recommend walking around when it is dim out and there is tons of traffic and construction, but nothing horrible or great about the area
