Convenient!
Convenience! Free street parking is very accessible. 171 bus stop out front. Great front desk staff

Solid, slightly overpriced
Shoreland is convenient to the law school, and I have no problems with the apartment or management company, but cheaper options exist if you look.

Building is great, Mac is iffy
MAC has been a bit iffy at times– they tried to trick everyone into bundling their utilities into one payment under the guise of convenience, but upon inquiry we found out it would about double the amount people were paying for utilities. The staff in the building and maintenance has been great though. I signed a two-year lease which is why I am still there. If they try to raise the rent again in conjunction with the utility increase when I go to renew I'll probably leave.
Also, top floor has tiny windows. It was disappointing for sure.
A lot of other law students live there which is convenient.

Wonderful apartments
I really like living in the Shoreland. I think the amenities (particularly in-unit laundry) are great, and I like the social component of there being so many law students in the building. The front desk staff are warm and personable and maintenance has been incredibly prompt whenever I needed them.

Great 1L apartment
Shoreland is a lovely place to live. You're right on the lake, which is great, and most rooms have great views of either the lake or, on the other side, the rest of Hyde Park. The rooms are spacious and recently renovated, and all include washer & dryer and central air/heat. And the (free) 171 bus takes you to the law school in less than 15 minutes. The Mac staff has always been great for me.

Great location and friendly people
Shoreland rooms have lots of light and have a good layout. The people that work at the front desk are wonderful and service requests are done quickly.

Good place to start.
In unit washer dryer is super convenient, but there’s probably better value somewhere else. Lots of law students live here.

Worth the Price
For your first year it really is worth getting a secure and close apartment to introduce you to Hyde Park and the city. The price is definitely higher than the surrounding areas, but very manageable with a roommate and well worth the extra few hundred dollars a month for the simplicity of having a 24/7 front desk, responsive maintenance, and a bus stop right in front of the building.

I really like Shoreland
I have a great apartment with a lot of natural light because I'm on the corner. I love having the in-unit washer and dryer, and there's a little over 20 other 1Ls in the building, so there's a good community.

Shoreland
I have very little bad things to say about Shoreland--management is responsive, the location is ideal (CTA picks you up at the building and goes straight to the law school; buses that run downtown are 2 blocks away), the rooms are pretty spacious, and there is someone at the front desk 24/7.

Hyde Park Reviews
I personally loved living close to campus, for access both to Harper Center and to the broader UChicago campus. I feel much more integrated with the rest of the university as a result of proximity and availability.
In short, there's enough going on in Hyde Park not to feel isolated, but it's far enough away from the city not to feel suffocated.
