Evanston Galleria, the dark horse

Evanston Galleria is smack dab in the middle of Downtowm Evanston so everything is very close by. Bars (Bat 17, Prairie Moon, Nevin's) and gyms (LA Fitness, EAC, Pure Barre, Cycle Bar) and restaurants galore. It's a 15 min slow walk, 12 min fast walk away from the Jake, but will most likely be a 20+ min walk to the Global Hub. Around the corner is the Davis purple line stop so you can get downtown with ease.

The residence is made up of primarily Kellogg students but because there aren't any common areas it doesn't feel as dorm-y as Optima Horizons or E2. I like that because when I come home I can actually have a place to be on my own, but still have Kellogg folks nearby for camaraderie. You get one uncovered parking space included with each unit. Most folks live here on 2-yr leases. There are no extra amenities in this building (no gyms, no pools, no doormen). You pay for gas, cable, electricity in addition to rent. Water and trash is included in the rent.

The rooms are spacious and I get nothing but compliments on our high ceilings and modern track lighting. Some units have updated appliances (stainless steel) and some do not so be aware. During the few warm months we have, we have A/C to cool us down and during the cold winter months we have a radiator system that warms the entire building.

Love my apartment, but building mgmt & maintenance are unresponsive

Love the location - proximity to Whole Foods, CVS, Citibank, Bat 17, right next to the CTA, EAC is basically my living room...
This used to be a department store, so the units are non-standard and have high ceilings. Love living here!
Mix of Kellogg and non-Kellogg in the building - probably at about 50/50. Always a party happening somewhere, but I can't hear them from my unit.

Great apartment!

Awesome apartment, high ceilings with track lighting and lots of windows. Pretty new appliances, hardwood floors. Good amount of space. No doorman or gym but rent is cheaper. Not many units that are 2BR and layout such that it works for roommates (rather than a couple or family) but if you get one it's great. 15 min walk from the Jake, right next to the Davis Metra/EL stops.

Great Location

Main upside: The location of Evanston Galleria simply can't be beat.
Main downside: The condos do not have enough storage space in the unit (i.e., not enough closet/cupboard space), though you do get a storage locker downstairs.

Awesome beautiful building

Have really enjoyed living here -- very quiet and nice with incredibly high ceilings. Some issues with the management and there are no amenities (but I didn't want amenities anyway -- I rarely use building gyms)

Great building!

Awesome location in central Evanston in a historic building that has been renovated with modern finishes. The units are spacious with lots of light. The main negative is that there aren't any amenities other than storage.

Great location, nice building

Evanston Galleria is great. The apartments are big with high ceilings, hardwood floors, large windows, and in-unit washer/dryer. The building used to be an old department store, so it has a lot of character. The rent is reasonable, and my unit came with a parking space in the attached lot off of the second floor. There aren't a lot of frills in the building -- no doorman or gym, and the parking isn't covered.

One warning, the apartments are lofts so there are ventilation gaps in the bedroom (walls don't go all the way to the ceiling). So if one person is up late making noise or having the lights on then it can be hard for the person in the bedroom to sleep.

Otherwise, it's a great place to live right in the heart of Evanston just steps from restaurants/bars and the El/Metra.

Great Place!

So far, the Galleria has been a nice place to be. There are some ups and downs with maintenance giving the building is older and was not originally designed as condos. Maintenance isn't the most timely, but everything gets done. The actual space is great and the tall ceilings are amazing! I enjoy the low-key vibe of the building, but wish it was a bit more social.

Beautiful Historic Building in Central Location

The Galleria has been a great place to live. It's centrally located in Evanston close to restaurants, grocery stores and public transit. Also, it's a quick 10 minute walk to the Jake. A bunch of Kellogg students live in the building, so there is a nice community. It doesn't come with any amenities, but you are close the LA Fitness. Pets are allowed on a per condo basis, so you need to check with your landlord.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
