810 9th

810 9th is a great place to live-- there aren't any major red flags I'd mention because the management is kind, responsive, and helpful and the units are clean and well maintained. One thing I would say is that the walls to the outside are thin- you can hear every car, conversations from the sidewalk below, etc. through the walls facing the streets.

Just close enough, just far enough

I'd say that of all the 9th St. options (B9, S9, Erwin Mills, BMain) that 810 is probably the most premium option. Then again, I'd say you get what you pay for. The apartment complex is generally quiet, the amenities are nice, and the appliances are up to date. It's a very easy complex to navigate and has a pretty solid gym. Packages are delivered to an amazon locker and you don't have to be concerned about packages being taken in a mail room. The pool is quieter too if you're considering facing the pool. Also, management is super responsive. I've never had a problem.

Great if you want to live @ 9th Street!

I thought my apartment was going to feel small, but the space is just right for me and my husband! Our apt view is towards the dog park (Green St.), no problem with noise but natural light during winter can be limited some days.
Compared to other places in Durham, 9th street alternatives are expensive. However, the location is great if you are an MBA student (single or with a partner - no kids). If you don't plan on having/buying a car, it might be your best choice. I do feel 810 is the best option among 9th street alternatives!

Nice place to live BUT you won't be able to have social gatherings

The building is new, pretty. Good gym. Everytime I have a request, they solve it quickly. HOWEVER, the leasing office always puts noise complaints. So if you are a party person or like to have people in your place regularly, this is not the place. Honestly, security came to a friend's house just for 5 people talking, no music.
Besides that, just one private conference room.

Clean, Nice Pool

Very clean and nice place to live. I like the space to study. Quiet and easy access to East Campus which has the bus to Fuqua.

Meh

Paper-thin walls, disorganized and controlling staff. The amenities are great but the staff is so strict about using them, it undermines the value.

Great for privacy!

I think 810 is the nicest building on 9th street, compared to the other popular options. It is the cleanest building; management is extremely friendly and responsive; and there are days where residents are given free breakfast on the go.

If you are not someone that likes to host parties, then 810 is the perfect place to live. It's not a social building, you'll get peace and privacy here. Management is strict about noise after 11PM, which makes it great if you're trying to study or sleep! But it is a short walking distance to the other buildings if you want to attend pre-games, etc.

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
