Lots of Fuqua students, but nicer places for your money

The apartment itself has nice finishes, and the building is well maintained.
Lots of Fuqua students live here so if you want to be near classmates/ don’t have a car, this is a great option and something to consider.
Grocery stores and food within walking distance.
My complaints are that the Water pressure inside of apartments is low (toilet and shower) and the walls are pretty thin so expect to hear a lot of different things.
Living here has been good overall, but there are some other options that I wish I had known about that are closer to downtown Durham.

Nice building, weird management

810 I think is one of the nicest buildings on 9th street; it’s smaller but has all of the same amenities and in my case, slightly lower rent. However, the management has been slightly odd: cracking down extremely hard on noise complaints without investigating, deciding at random when their office does or does not follow covid guidelines, not allowing any social gatherings in the common areas, and accusing residents of vandalizing an elevator. It’s not all bad, but it’s definitely an odd vibe coming from the front office.

Best management by far

The team at 810 is the best property management I've ever experienced! They go above and beyond to help residents, and are extremely timely with maintenance requests -- I've never waited more than a few hours for something to be fixed. I had a couch delivered that wouldn't fit in the elevator, and the delivery team was just going to leave the couch. I told the maintenance folks and they put it in the back of their truck, drove it to my floor, and carried it inside for me (it was HEAVY!). This was way outside of their job descriptions but they jumped at the chance to help. Couldn't speak more highly of the group at 810!

Nice place

It locates right beside the food market (Harris Teeter), so it's super convenient to get all the ingredients you want. Additionally, the H1 (hospital loop) bus make the daily commute easy since it directly connects the campus and my apartment.

810 ninth

Nice, quiet apartment building conveniently located on ninth street only one block from Duke’s east campus. Management is responsive and the pool and fitness center are great amenities. Very expensive, so recommend roommates.

Old West Durham Reviews

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
