Decent New Building

E2 is a new building as of this year. Despite being brand new, I don't think they put in the highest quality materials because there is already wear and tear in the apartments from general use. Some of the layouts are awkward and struggle to fit furniture. Make sure to check out the apartment before you sign and measure!
The amenities are great - pool, gym, grills - and allow for a very social Kellogg environment. However, there are a lot of families here whose lifestyle is obviously different and as a Kellogg student it can feel a little intrusive (Tuesday night pregames are a great example of this). If you are here in the summer the families basically take over the pool. That being said, we had many a social gathering on the deck, which were quite large and a lot of fun. The internet is a continuous issue throughout the year. Management appears to want to fix the issue, but they are still working on it. The front door staff is excellent (Sandy is awesome) and the convenience of having package pick up is great.

Great place to live but serious growing pains

E2 is a brand new apartment complex with probably the best amenities in Evanston ... full size basketball court, movie theater, great pool + grills, small but serviceable indoor gym. Apartments are great as could be expected with a brand new building ... quality countertops, appliances, bathroom, kitchen, etc. The doormen (and women) are fantastic, probably the nicest, friendlist folks I've ever had in my experience renting (I traveled quite a bit, have lived in at least 8 different apartments over the last 5 years across the country).

The biggest problems with E2 are the elevators and the internet. There are only two elevators per tower, which is not enough for 15-floor buildings especially in rush hour times (mornings are especially bad). Exacerbating the problem is the fact that the elevators are constantly broken or down. I have waited up to 5 minutes for an elevator (I live on a high floor), and it is not uncommon for me to wait 2-3 minutes each time. This doesn't sound like a lot, but can be a real pain when you're in a hurry. The internet also goes down sporadically and can stay off for a full day at a time. The builidng contracts with one specific internet provider who is the lowest rated provider in the entire Chicago metropolitan area (by a pretty wide margin).

Another potential risk is pricing - rental prices now are fairly reasonable compared to other apartment complexes in Evanston, but there's definitely a possibility that management hikes the rates up next year considering the building is brand new and occupancy is high.

High on style, low on substance

Rooms and amenities look great on the surface, and a LOT of Kellogg students lived here this year. But basic services such as the Internet, the elevators, the business center, and the parking garage were unreliable, routinely failing at inopportune times. And management was notoriously slow to respond when these failures occurred. Until these basic issues are fixed, I cannot in good conscience recommend living here.

Great place, some issues

Internet is spotty which people whine about, but honestly its the best place to live in Evanston for a Kellogg student simply for social reasons and for the amenities.

Seemed nice, but poor management

Very disappointed with how E2 is run. The internet goes out far too often, management has been a thorn in our side, etc, etc. The amenities are certainly nice, but it can be a pain to use. Also had my car broken into outside of the building.

Good place to live

E2 has been a stellar place to live. It's one of the nicest high end apartment buildings in Evanston and the floor to ceiling windows are awesome.

Basically a dorm for Kellogg people

E2 was a great community to join - only issue I had was with the management and their poorly structured and communicated policies. Most of their staff are super nice and personable (they also make an effort to put together community events like potlucks, etc.) but their policies on referrals, amenities, and services did not meet expectations. Specifically, they asked me to remove a flag hanging from my apartment balcony, though clearly did not enforce the same issue with others. Overall, I assumed they'd be willing to be more flexible on all of these items as they were very unclear from the start. Additionally, there were a ton of maintenance issues (e.g., air conditioning going out) and the quality of the rooms were not as strong as once advertised.

E2 Style over Function

We moved into E2 right after it was built. I was impressed by the (basically) floor to ceiling windows and great amenities. During the summer the roof deck pool and grills were amazing. My fiance also loves the indoor basketball court. After a while we realized E2 was designed to look really nice, but doesn't function as it should. For example the outdoor fire pit was never turned on due to safety concerns. There are consistently problems with the internet and elevators. The kitchen breakfast bar counters are too shallow to put stools at or sit comfortably at. There is hardly any closet space. And to top it all off it doesn't feel like the management team is responsive to resident concerns.

Could be a lot better

While I've generally been okay with my experience at E2, I think construction on the building was a bit rushed and there have been a lot of growing pains over the last few months. Some parts of the building have been poorly planned, but hopefully they improve over the next year.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
