Review - amenities and lighting

Lots of amenities. There is a small gym, vending machines, coffee, snacks a few times a week, a room to rent out for gatherings, and packages are kept at the office. There is no overhead lighting in most rooms so you need to bring lamps.

Fayette Square Apartments

These are UMB's student housing. The building is on campus so I have a very short walk to school each day. It is very secure and I have never had concerns about safety living there. They also provide secure mail and package drop off so packages do not get stolen. There is a small gym in the building that comes in handy if you don't have time to get to the school gym. They also have trash shoots on each floor and laundry on every other floor.

Great for students

The location is close to all the main grad schools and is worth it if you are looking for convenience and safety. This place is monitored all the time and the management is friendly and always willing to help.

Its fine

Its fine. Maintenance is super responsive about fixing things within units but not great about fixing things in the building. Washers are constantly broken, there are 3 elevators total but only one is always working. One has been broken for the entire semester. Last year the water was out for a full day at least 5 days a semester. The convenience can't be beat. The gym isn't anything special but it's always open.

The surrounding neighborhood isn't great besides being close to school. Homeless people are always wandering around but they have never bothered me.

Management is fine but nothing special.

Overpriced for a mediocre building but the convenience can't be beat.

Good enough

When I moved in, the place was DISGUSTING. Trash everywhere, other people's belongings. Apparently, this is the norm because we don't pay security deposits. Within the first week, the front office gave away my package to someone else. Not the worst place to live. The maintenance requests get taken care of pretty quickly. The gym has the basics, like weights and three treadmills. The garage under the apartment isn't the worst, but the surrounding area can be a bit sketchy at times. Big homeless community in the area. There's also a strong police presence. There is no need to worry about security, though, the building has 24-hour security with someone at the front gate monitoring everything.

Living at Fayette Square Apts.

Overall, I’ve had a pretty good experience living at Fayette Square. The rooms are spacious, maintenance is responsive, and the fact that utilities are included are a plus. The only downside would be the unavailability of the laundry rooms during certain times of the week/time of the day and the rare occasion in which only one out of the three elevators are working.

Very College Like Apts

The apartment is very close to my school, so its very convenient. However, it is very far away from grocery stores and restaurants so you do need a car or you will be walking very far. It gives of a college on-campus apartment vibe, but I've been pleased with it for my graduate school experience. It is very spacious, there is not a lot of natural sunlight though which sucks. The management also doesn't tell you when they will be stopping by for maintenance. But other than that, I think its fine and affordable.

A Couple Complaints but Worth It Overall

It is expensive. We have issues with the water about once per month (maintenance responds super quickly and does their best). The surrounding area is a bit rough (but security and UMB police are very impressive). There are no bars and minimal restaurants within walking distance. **However, it is furnished (huge expense/burden), a quiet building, incredibly convenient, has large bedrooms, management is delightful, and maintenance responds within 1 business day. I have a great view with large windows and direct sunlight (not everyone does), and many of my best friends live in the building. Definitely not a perfect complex, but the pros outweigh the cons for me. I have already resigned for next year (and likely will again after). Oh and very thick walls, I have never been annoyed by my neighbors.

Mount Vernon has restaurants, bars, shops, and multiple grassy areas near the monument. It's a great place to walk around. It's a very communal space. Nearby schools are UB, UMD, MICA, and JHU Peabody. Bus transit near the monument. The Walters Art Museum is very close by. UB is about a 15 minute walk and 5 minute drive from 611 Park.
Area is nearby Mount Vernon, which is very charming. Good restaurants, nice walking area. If you are into night life, however, this apartment may not be for you. The area nearby the building is very quiet at night.
Great place to visit museums, restaurants, and historical monuments. Not too far from the law school, and the UMB Shuttle can get you to school in about 10 minutes
There isn’t too much near by in comparison to other locations in Baltimore, but it is in the middle of the city so it is easy to get places. There isn’t a grocery store nearby, which is probably the biggest con.
UMd Police presence is fairly high, so the area feels reasonably safe. Fairly well lit, and fairly heavily traveled given its location with UB and UMd.
Have only been offered crack once in two years.
This area of Baltimore is not necessarily super busy. The nightlife and restaurant scene is abysmal in this spot, but there are several, easy ways to get into Federal Hill or Fell's Point.

Additionally, this area is not known to be a super safe area of Baltimore, but since we are located so close to the school, there is constant security around. I have never felt unsafe walking to and from school and my apartment.
On the very south edge of Mt Vernon. Pretty quiet, some good restaurants/a few bars around. Easy to casually go out, or travel a bit for more aggressive nightlife. Less safe area about 1 block south, but very safe north.
Good bar/restaurant scene, right next to the train/bus station. Some crime but can't help that.
