Great location and building

Living at the Drake has been a great experience. It Is quiet and in a great location, not too far from Rittenhouse Square and close enough to the historical area of Philly. The management is great and I have no complaints! My neighbors and quiet and everyone looks out for each other. Although the rent is pricey, it is worth it.

The Drake

The Drake is a great place to live for a reasonable cost in the city. There is a gym and laundry room in the building. The front desk staff are all very nice. Service requests get taken care of pretty quickly. It's in an ideal location and is very close to the broad street line.

The Drake

I absolutely love my apartment here at The Drake. I love the layout and the amount of space we get for what we pay. The amenities are also pretty great. Maintenance problems are quickly fixed and the front desk is very reliable. The gym isn't super extravagant, but it's good enough to get a solid workout in. The laundry room is well maintained and the price for each load isn't bad at all. Also, utilities for a 2BR/2Ba is on average $50/person, which is kind of great. The location of The Drake is also really nice. It is close to a lot of cafes, bars and restaurants. Only problem is that it can get a little bit noisy at night on any day except Sunday and maybe Monday. Another downside of living here is the lack of a parking garage for anyone with a car. One last caveat is that while I think the rent for my apartment is more than reasonable, the rent for studios and 1 bedrooms is kind of pricey. I don't think I'd choose to live here if I were looking for a studio or 1BR since the space and cost doesn't seem worth it. For 2BR apartments, I think that whether rent is worth the apartment is very much so dependent on the floor plan. Otherwise, I love living here and as long as rent doesn't change too much, I don't see myself moving any time soon!

Friendly building

Drake is a beautiful old fashioned building with great staff at the reception and in the management office. Upper floors have more light. Apartments are spacious. Carpets are on the floors. Heating system is old but works fine, A/C is a bit annoying as it's built in the wall. In the summer is loud and in the winter the cold comes through it inside the apartment. But nothing that would be unbearable. There is a laundry room and a small gym. We really enjoy living here. If you are looking for the best value for your money, Drake is your answer.

Very pleased with The Drake

The Drake is a great building. For the size unit you get with a 24 hr doorman the price is unbeatable. The management staff are very responsive and friendly. The gym is your standard alright apartment gym. No in-apartment washers/dryers but Ive never had to wait in the laundry room for a unit. In the winter the building runs very hot, even when its freezing outside I always have my windows open with no heat on in my apartment. The building is older but before I moved in my walls were repainted, carpet was re-done, and though it certainly didnt have the most modern kitchen it was incredibly clean and looked great for moving in. Before I came to Philly I didnt think having a 24 hour doorman would matter much, but it does once you become addicted to Amazon Prime. The location is ok to good. Its a farther walk to campus (35 min door-to-door at a fast pace) but its much closer to the restaurants and bars that most people go to compared with many other buildings that are West of Rittenhouse. Also its a safer area than some more expensive apartments west of Rittenhouse. However, if I were to do it again Id find an apartment near the downtown Trolley stop at Market & 15th, that would make commuting to school so much easier than for everyone else.

I've had a great experience at The Drake.

The building is old but the apartments have been re-done on the inside with updated appliances, etc. Because it's a high-rise building, the apartments don't have a lot of personality but I think the amenities like a front desk, mailroom, laundry room, etc. make up for that. I've found management to be very responsive to maintenance and other requests (the building also offers less than 12 months leases). Although the location is a little bit farther from Rittenhouse Square than some other buildings, it's very affordable for a spacious 2BR/BA.

Good, but old building.

I'd say that the price per value on this building is probably the best in Philly (for high rises). A bit too far from school.

The Drake: Great, affordable, moderately luxurious experience

My experience at the Drake has been great: my apartment is recently renovated and spacious. The building amenities, including the gym, are in great condition and I use them often. The apartment is competitively priced and the staff is friendly. The location is relatively far from campus but well situated for social events and for visiting establishments in Center City.

Affordable, nice, spacious building

Great building. Quite inexpensive, spacious, a convenient location for the bars and restaurants that we students often visit, nice construction, convenient features and amenities like a huge laundry room, pretty nice gym, doorman. The one and only issue I have with the building is that over the course of the school year I saw about 4 roaches, which is really gross but I guess it happens.

Spacious floorplans and convenient location

Great functional layout for the apartment makes it feel larger than it is. Easy access to shopping and transportation to campus. Relatively quiet street with very easy access to busier streets. Parking can be a challenge. Free heat and hot water are great amenities, but the heaters are not controllable despite having apparent control knobs. This lack has only rarely resulted in the apartment being too warm or too cold.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
