Garrett West reviews and highlights
- great choice if you have a car
- updated, open floorplan
- complex management is fantastic -- they respond quickly to requests
- lots of light in the apartment
Garrett West
I personally enjoy living at Garrett West! It is nothing too fancy, but my roommate and I enjoy the pool, ample parking and trash valet. A lot of fellow 1L’s live there as well, so it is nice to have that sense of community. The apartments are walk ups with no elevators, so beware living on the third floor, especially for move in/out.

Garrett West
Very clean and nice apartment, amazing price, everything is in working order. Work orders are fulfilled within a fairly reasonable time, but there is currently a shortage of workmen so is taking longer than usual. Very kind and responsive management.

Quiet Safe Space
I live in Garrett for 5 months. It's a quiet space, 7-minute drive to the west campus, and the wellness facility is a little simple if you need a good gym.

Affordable and close to Duke
Great experience here. It’s a quieter community that has a lot of grad students, young families, and medical workers. Not a good fit if you like hosting parties or are loud. Neighborhoods nearby are great for walking/running/biking. Only an 8 minute drive to Fuqua and very short drive to lots of retail and restaurants.

Enjoyable Place to Live
Garrett West is a community that provides nice amenities at more reasonable prices than downtown or ninth street. The location is convenient because it's located halfway between Chapel Hill and Durham. The location provides easy access to campus and numerous shopping options, however, living here requires a car. Management is responsive and the facilities are kept in great shape. It's a great place for people looking for a quieter community. It might not be as attractive for people looking for bars and restaurants nearby.

Great but not cheap
The staff is friendly, the amenities are excellent, and the units are top quality! I absolutely recommend living here if you want to be close enough to the medical campus (~10 min drive) while still feeling like you’re away from the hustle and bustle of a college town. The rent is on the high side, but with a roommate it is totally worth it.

Quiet and Convenient Community
Well maintained apartments with responsive management. Amenities are kept up well, and the complex is quiet with walking paths. Lots of couples and young families. Apartments are clean and spacious with basic finishes. Would recommend to students looking for a convenient alternative to 9th street. A car is a must for this complex.

Garrett West is a great place for couples and dogs
Garrett West is not far from Duke University but is located in a quaint community with many Duke students. It is a very dog-friendly complex, with many places to walk your dog and a small dog park. Management is responsive to upkeep concerns, hosts events with residents to ensure the community is engaged, and ensures that service is timely and high quality. The three-story buildings have solid A/C and decent noise mitigation. It's a relatively quiet community overall. Overall, I'd stay here indefinitely, but it will be time to move on soon for greener pastures.

Great location for family in a proximity of many groceries
A lot of families live in the apartment, which was very good for my kid to find friends to play with at the playground. This place is also in a good location to Target, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, etc.

Great if you're willing to drive
Love my apartment - beautiful living space, maintenance is always very responsive, the pool area is lovely, and the cost is reasonable. Good location about halfway between downtown Chapel Hill and Durham, not gated but have always felt safe here. The downsides: 1) gym is small compared to other Durham complexes, and 2) you have to have a car for the ~10 min drive to campus, and to get to nearby grocery stores, etc.
