Great, affordable spot downtown!

The apartment has been great and has a ton of amenities. It is also walking distance to many of the bars and venues downtown that Fuqua has its events at. The apartment unit itself is spacious and affordable. The gym is HUGE and better than most gyms in Durham. Lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Good value but walls do not reach the ceiling

Review title says it all. I live in a 3br in West Village and my walls do not reach the ceiling. The walls are 8 feet and the ceiling is 14 feet. This means theres is very little privacy between rooms. We don’t really even notice anymore, but I would not recommend for introverts or people who frequently have guests over.

If you love factory apartments, West Village is great

It has a lot of character which makes the downsides pretty much worth it.

Great Place to Live, Easy Access to Downtown and Duke

Overall, this place has been great for me. I have a great view from my balcony of downtown and the pool. I have had relatively few issues with the apartment, and maintenance is pretty timely whenever things need to be fixed. The front office is wonderful and normally handles requests on the same day. My neighbors are nice and friendly. This place is also pet and kid-friendly. There are different generations and family configurations that live here. It is safe and I have lived her for my entire graduate experience.

Management Issues

The building is undergoing renovations and as a result we have had many maintenance issues and maintenance has been slow to respond to them.

West Village Warehouse Apartments

I just moved into West Village, but I'm enjoying living here so far. I'm living in one of the units in an old warehouse building, so the building is very unique and has its own style. West Village is located downtown and less than 10 minutes drive to Duke's campus and the hospital. The location is perfect, because you can easily walk to restaurants and other businesses nearby.

West Village is good, but expensive.

I only really have two gripes about the apartment complex. First, the property management is not great. They fail to respond to emails and leave expectations unclear for certain obligations the tenants have (e.g., they said they would start fining for units that leave trash cans in the hallway after the garbage collection window, but they didn't respond to an email asking what that specific window is). Second, the price is pretty high. The apartments are great and spacious, and the commute to the law school takes 7 minutes.

Brightleaf Reviews

Very safe neighborhood, I have never felt unsafe here and have been comfortably walking alone even at night. Streets have good lighting. Very close to bars and restaurants.
Brightleaf is essentially the (very small) area between downtown and Duke's East Campus. It's fairly walkable, has a few good restaraunts, and is about as central in Durham as one can get. It's not the most scenic neighborhood, but if you want to run or walk, you're very close the ATT, or the leafier neighborhoods of Trinity Park.
Love the neighbourhood, very lively filled with the newest restaurants and bars
Really love the brightleaf area. Lots of restaurants and bars. New spots popping up! Very close to downtown.
Love it - Durham is growing very fast and it's nice to be close to it!
Brightleaf tends to be pretty quiet; It is almost entirely made up of West Village. It's walkable to good dining options and is central to Durham as a whole. Not a lot of "neighborliness" however. Most people seem to be working professionals with a few young families.
Fantastic neighborhood - fun to live down town. Very walkable to all bars and restaurants. Close enough to Ninth Street.
Downtown is a very social place with a lot of bars and restaurants. A lot of graduate students live in this complex and the complex is very secure with access cards requirement in every building.
