Great Overall

Great location close to campus. Good amenities and gym. Only downside would be a little expensive but everything around here is.

Great apartment, bad management

I love my studio apartment. It has a great view and is a good size with nice appliances. The maintenance workers and front desk staff are amazing. The front desk controls all of our packages and notifies us when we can pick them up via an app. However, the management is not great. There are a lot of maintenance issues and management is not responsive about fixing them. Because I love my unit, I probably won't be moving out, but I also don't think I would choose to move in again.

Axis

Overall, I like Axis because it is very close to campus and there is lots of green space nearby that I can take my dog to. It is also very quiet, despite having a lot of people- I hardly even know I have neighbors. However, there are consistently problems with the shared laundry machines, and the pool has been closed for the 6 months I’ve lived here with no end in sight.

Review of Axis Apartments

Overall, had a good experience living here for 2 years. I would warn future residents of maintenance problems (had issues with my ceiling, and water coming in through a window, sometimes issues with the laundry room) and difficulties with getting prompt responses from maintenance and management. My rent increased by $150 between the years I rented here. If you intend to rent here, I would recommend touring your unit in-person (I did not have the opportunity) as it was hard to know how much space I was getting from a virtual tour.

worse place i've ever lived

i've seen flyers circulating: 0) i got stuck in an elevator once. just the other day, 9 people got stuck in elevator 1) we lost a $1000+ item from the mailroom (very obviously a laptop from the box). 2) we were told there would be luxury items, when there weren't. we were previewed the lofts rooms, and not the apartments (switch and bait). we had to replace all kitchen appliances in kitchen. 3) my electric bills in the winter are $450+/month to stay warm. The electric bill is so high because the heater/ac units are very old and inefficient. 4) the heater/ac units are not installed properly, so that the entire floor is loaded with electrostatic discharge when they are on, as they essentially seem to be van de graff generators. If you have electrical equipment (like I do) this can be a serious issue. 5) pool: i went swimming once, and got a cold the very next day. Pool is just loaded with chlorine in hopes to keep it clean. it's sloppy and disgusting at best. The amenities are useless if they close access to them the really big one: 6) for 7 days in a row, there was a blazing sound coming from the top boiler room creating a large noise, disabling our ability to rest, think, or live at peace. Mark (building engineer) refused to help in the beginning, yelled at me on the phone for "monoplizing his time". Group Fox management is MIA. Drake and his colleagues have been advised to ignore me, as a management decision has been made to have a premium customer (paying $3600+/month) suffer for days on end. We called 311 (chicago non-emergency police) 3x, and complained to BBB. emailed attorney general as well. the environmental inspector visited Axis, we do not know yet if fines were involved. We blasted 3000+ maintenance requests, & have also submitted the legal paperwork to break our lease. For the record.. if the staff were genuinely polite, nice, and understanding, I would not complain. What really made these things worse is that the staff were rude, condescending, unprofessional, dishonest, and careless

Axis Overall

Good location in streeterville for a medical student. Lovely views of Lake Michigan. Amenities are standard but limited. Staff can be difficult and not very helpful-- ie my ceiling was leaking and no one at the front desk wanted to help/problem solve because it happened during the night and their manager was not around. I have had problem with neighbor's noise at late hours prior to shifts because the walls are very thin.

Axis

Axis is a fine place to rent. The location, roof deck, fitness center, and pool are very, very nice. The units themselves are a little rundown and a little outdated. Streeterville is expensive and Axis is no exception. The management company is unhelpful and unsupportive, but the Axis staff is kind. The heat is very expensive, but the water is very reasonably included in rent.

Close to school but a few management problems

Overall, I've had a pleasant experience at Axis. I have lived in the same unit for all four years with the same roommate (another Feinberg student). The building is super convenient (2 blocks from NMH). Amenities are ok, but include a gym, rooftop, and pool. Elevators are a frequent issue in the building; as one or more are often broken, which can lead to prolonged wait times (and at least twice during my residence, all elevators were broken at once). Package room has also had a few times during my residence, e.g. losing packages.

Slow elevators & old amenities, unfriendly staff

Building is okay, mostly staying here for proximity to the hospital. Staff recently changed at the front desk are are often unfriendly/not helpful. Elevators can be very slow during morning hours. Walls are very thin & can hear normal speaking volume conversations neighbors are having from certain parts of the apartment.

Streeterville Reviews

Perfect location for Feinberg, almost feels like a small slice of a college town because so many of your neighbors will be students, residents, nurses, etc at the hospital. You do get sirens fairly often depending on where you live since the emergency room is very close. The neighborhood doesn't have too many restaurants/bars but it is walking distance to River North and Gold Coast and the rest of the city is easily accessed by public transport. Much safer than most neighborhoods in Chicago.
Streeterville is a very nice neighborhood. There are plenty of parks and grocery stores. There is some late night crime due to the location downtown and close to the beach, but overall nothing worse than anywhere else.

There are some more expensive restaurants and fast food places. Navy Pier attracts a lot of tourists and they can be annoying to navigate around.
I enjoy living in Streeterville since it's near many of Chicago attractions without feeling overwhelming like in the Loop. I am able to walk around safely at night and I like going jogging in Millennium Park. My biggest complaint would be the lack of greenery in the area and how the city can feel a little bit insulating at times. Public transportation is great. This area is pricey, which is why I decided to have a roommate.
The Streeterville area was still pretty sleepy when I moved here three years ago. Since then, there has been an incredible amount of development. New luxury apartments and condos are going up, several new restaurants, a brand new target and Whole Foods. Its become a great place for professionals who enjoy living downtown, but without the club crowds in River North.
There are a few buses that are near by that help get residents down to the loop. Also it's pretty easy to walk around and the cross walks are pedestrian friendly. I'm always able to get around by foot and buses/trains. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood and I've never felt unsafe walking around at night. The streets are well lit.
Noise is not usually too big of an issue in this neighborhood; it's pretty quiet at night.
There are multiple grocery stores nearby for multiple choices. Also there are a bunch of great places to eat so one will not get bored with options.
While on the expensive end in Chicago, streeterville is safe, has all the necessities (look for apts near grocery stores if you don't have a car!!), is super close to school (and most feinberg students so convenient for socializing), and is super close proximity to restaurants and bars.
This building is located in the center of everything you could possibly need. Whole foods and Jewel within walking distance, easy to get to the lake front, and plenty of good restaurants and bars. The only down side is that it does not really have a "neighborhoody" feel.
Love how close we are to the medical school, makes going to class really easy. A lot of students live in Streeterville so it is very easy to hangout with friends. There are also a few coffee shops in the neighborhood that are very fun to study at!
