Cheap, decent, close to the hospital
definitely gets the job done for m1 year! minor annoyances like an overly sensitive fire alarm, no gym, pretty warm in the summer, but overall has been solid. will probably stay for m2

Island Drive Review
I would not recommend this apartment complex. I moved here to live close to the hospital with the most affordable price in the area, so I understand it may be the only reasonable option for some, but if you can avoid it I would highly advice looking eslewhere. In terms of the apartment itself, it's older and isn't up to date. There isn't a dishwasher and the bathroom does not have proper ventilation so I'm highly suspicious of mold issues. Otherwise, it's perfectly fine and has served me well. The reason it's been such a terrible place to live is because of the insanely predatory towing and terrible management. My application fee was "lost" and I had to pay it twice even though the office admitted to "losing" it. They took over 2 months to approve my application and I had to spend almost every day calling them to get things sorted out. Now, while trying to add my fiance to the lease they have miraculously "lost" his application fee as well and have asked him to pay it again. And again, it has been close to three months since he originally applied to now. They claim to have no record of his application at all despite the fact that I can show them the emails that include his entire application. I was towed just two days ago for absolutely no reason, I was parked in a spot that I have parked in for months and my parking pass was clearly visible. Island Drive claims to have no relationship with the towing company and will not do anything or take any responsibility for vehicles being wrongly towed on their property. Each apartment has a fire escape that people typically will put plants on or leave a chair out. I had fake grass on the ground outside my fire escape just so I didn't step on the rust that it is completely covered in and without any warning the maintenance people removed it and threw it away. They did not touch anyone else's property, even the people who have grills and full tables on theirs. At this point the only reason I'm not subletting and moving out sooner is because it takes the leasing office months to do anything and I can't rely on them to complete a sublease agreement in a reasonable timeframe.

Island Drive Apartments
The apartment is right by the medical center. Before moving in I was worried about hearing ambulances coming in and out at all hours of the night, but so far I haven't heard one. The location itself is nice, it is right by the Huron river and within walking distance of both an M-Bus stop and a city bus stop. Yet, I will say the downsides come with the apartment itself, it is an older, not newly renovated apartment. The walls are extremely thin to the point where you can hear conversations of those who live immediately above you (for reference I live on the second floor of a three floor apartment unit), and you can hear when the people above you are moving around; but you cannot expect much from a two bedroom apartment for rent of $1,605.

Good
The location is good for where I need to go. The state of the apartment is okay, not great but it has what I need. The management is generally nice but not always the most responsive.

Great location, ok accommodation
Island Drive is a great place to live to save money while still living close to the medical school and hospital. Many med students end up living there so you’ll regularly see a big group of students all walking to school together. Island Drive is unfortunately quite a ways away from Kerrytown and downtown so you feel a little isolated. Also be sure to get a parking pass, the lots are regularly patrolled and visitors will get towed often within 30 minutes of parking and even late at night.

Good Enough
I’d say that living here for M1 and M2 year is fine. It’s close to the hospital, you have a lot of peers nearby, don’t have to worry about street parking (but make sure you have a pass and that you’re visitors park correctly or else YOU WILL be towed), and feels safe. However you will by no means be living in luxury and nearly every apartment here has some issue. Maintenance does their best but you will be getting the landlord special for most issues. All in all the place is good enough for the price and proximity you want for the first two years. After that point there’s no real reason to stay so close and pay this price. Live a little further and pay less and live nicer. I’d also say that living here is actually further from Taubman library than Kerry town (depending on location) so you aren’t actually necessarily living closer.

Island Drive Apartments Review
Cheap, close to the hospital but not the best management service. Classic collegetown

Great proximity, okay amenities
It’s an old but cozy apartment in white coat area that has everything I need - nice spacious living room, good kitchen and dining area, bedrooms have decently spacious closets. There is a washer and dryer in the basement which works well though a phone app payment. This is as cheap as you can get a place this close to the hospital. Cons: No dishwasher, and sometimes it takes a couple calls to get maintenance requests done. But it’s a nice comfy living space with very few extra costs - gas and water are covered within rent, so we only pay for internet and electricity on the side.

Best Location, Comfortable Accommodations
Proximity to the hospital is hard to beat. The neighborhood is nice and there are plenty of places to run and spend time at Island Park. Spacious living room, good bathroom, nice sunlight in kitchen and living room. Maintenance requests are not the quickest, but not the slowest either; usually takes about 1-5 days. Overall, nothing sticks out as particularly wonderful or terrible.

Island Drive Apartments
Best parts of Island Drive are that it is affordable, extremely close to the medical campus, and sits right along the Huron River with its accompanying trails and parks. Surrounding neighborhood consists of other apartment complexes which house predominantly other health professions students, graduate students, and some young families. Management is hit or miss with regards to responsiveness to maintenance requests or other assistance such as parking passes for visitors. As a customer for going on 4 years, I wish I felt more valued by the management. Amenities include free parking, free access to small gym and pool at the complex, heat, trash, and water included in rent, laundry facilities on site.
